About The Chevy 4.3 Vortec Engine
The Chevy 4.3 engine shares many aspects of a Chevy 350 engine. For one the connecting rods are 5.7 inches, same as a Chevy 350.T he cylinder bore size is 4 inch which is the same as a 350 engine. The stroke is identical at 3.48. So, basically a 4.3 vortec engine is a 350 engine minus two cylinders. The valvetrain parts of a 350 small block can interchange with a Vortec 4.3 engine. That includes the stamp steel rocker arms and pushrods. The 4.3 Vortec engine is considered the smallblock V6 engine. These engines can take a lot of abuse. The 4.3 engine can handle boost. General Motors created the legendary Cyclone s10 pickup truck with a turbo charge 4.3 V6 engine that put out around 280 hp.

How We Build The Chevy 4.3 Vortec
Here is our multistep process for our Vortec 4.3 engine build:
1st Step: we wash and clean the 4.3 block, then we Magnaflux the block for cracks
2nd Step: we thread and clean all the bolt holes
3rd Step: we clean and machine the surface of the main caps
4th Step: we clean and Magnaflux the crankshaft, then we turn and polish the crankshaft
5th Step: we check the connecting rods for cracks through Magnaflux, then we recondition the big end
6th Step: we bore out the cylinder for oversized pistons
7th Step: we hone the cylinder to fit the piston + clearance
8th Step: we Magnaflux the cylinderheads for cracks
9th Step: we inspect the seats and grind the seats to a 3 angle valve job
10th Step: we mill cylinderhead flat to the correct Ra finish
11th Step: we install cam bearing into the 4.3 block
12th Step: we install the cam in block with lube
13th Step: we install main bearings into the 4.3 block
14th Step: we install the crankshaft into the 4.3 block
15th Step: we install 4.3 timing set
16th Step: we rotate the 4.3 rotating assembly
17th Step: we install the head gaskets
18th Step: we install lifters
19th Step: we install 4.3 Vortec cylinderheads
20th Step: we install stock 4.3 pushrods
21st Step: we install stamp steel rocker arms and adjust the lash
22nd Step: we simtest the engine

By increasing the duration and timing with an aftermarket camshaft, you can increase the powerband range. We custom cut our camshafts through Ersoncams. The second way is to use oversize pistons. Increasing the cubic inches brings in more air and fuel which creates more horsepower.
