The Toyota 3rzfe 2.7l engine is the replacement engine for the legendary Toyota 22re engine.
The 1995 Toyota Tacoma came on the scene with Toyota 3rzfe engine with a distributor setup. The Toyota 3rzfe motor also went into the 4runner and T100. The 3rzfe engine is engineered to be durable and high performance if need be.
The crankshaft is forged and the connecting rods are forged carbon steel. The pistons are constructed of aluminum, which to contribute to a light weight rotating assembly. The block is cast iron with a bore of 3 74 × stroke of 3.74 which means the bore and stroke is square which create greater horsepower through the power band , stock 3rzfe engines produce 150hp at 4800 rpms and 177lb.-ft of torque at 4000 rpms. The cylinder head is a dohc head which is 4 valve per cylinder for a 16 valve dual overhead cam cylinder head. The Toyota 3rz block has a dual balance shaft system that is use to cancel the engine vibration. Sometimes the balance shaft bearings go out, which can ruin a engine block, but they make a 3rz balance shaft delete kit, which can restore a engine block back to service use again. The delete kit contains two press fit bushings and a new oil chain squirter a self taping kit to block off the oil gallery. These 3rz engines are for performance applications such as drag racing, autocross racing and short track racing. Also a great engine for rock crawlers and propane rigs using a aftermarket ecu setup.
Another benefit of the 3rz engine is cylinder head is a great candidate for porting 22re and polishing the intake ports and exhaust ports. This motor also responses great to turbocharging reaching levels above a 1000 horsepower. The maintenance for a Toyota 3rz engine is pretty straight forward change the
oil and oil filter every 5000 mile using a synthetic blend oil. Use a good oil filter like Bosch or Toyota. Change the timing every 100,000 mile, so the chain doesn't snap or the tensioner doesn't goes out and jump time. Also the Toyota 3rz needs have its valves adjusted every 50,000 so miles. The Toyota 3rz engine has bucket over shim style valve which requires filler gauges to make the adjustments to the intake and exhaust valves. If left unchecked you get burnt exhaust valves. Here at Motor1engines we specialize in building Toyota 3rz engines. We use a combination of aftermarket parts that know exceeded factory oem spec through testing and use in the field.
Build Process
1st Step: we take a Toyota 3rz engine block clean it, then Magnaflux the block in a coil wrap, that creates a and electromagnetic field that draws dust to the crack.
2nd Step: we machine the face of the block, the back of the block, bottom of the block, and the deck of the block.
3rd Step: we chase and tap the bolt holes.
4th Step: we machine each of the main caps.
5th Step: we clean and brush clean the threads.
6th Step: we prime and paint the engine block.
7th Step: we turn and polish the crankshaft.
8th Step: we machine the big end of the connecting rod and replace. Install new brass wrist pin bushings
9th Step: we machine and grind the valves.
10th Step: we put a three angle valve job on the seats.
11th Step: we mill cylinder head flat.
12th Step: we do assembly and torque all bolts, then we install new timing components.
13th Step: we sim test the engine for compression, oil flow, oil pressure, pre breaking the rings
14th Step: we string rap the engine in plastic ready for pickup and delivery.
